History of Regional Hospital and Health Centre Česká Lípa

The public hospital was found in 1892 and run as The Town Hospital ( „Pod Holým vrchem“ Hospital ). In 1937, Infectious pavilion was cumulated. After the Second World War, former regional old people´s home ( located near contemporary hospital ) was transformed to hospital, where Surgery, Gynaecology and Obstetrics Departments were placed. That building was used till 1981.

Modern part of history of the hospital began in mid-1970, when the project of modern medical complex construction was born. This building was supposed to substitute the old, poor hospital. The new hospital and health centre were projected to provide complete medical services for the whole area of Česká Lípa region. Buildings were designed considering regional industrial expansion, mainly of uranious ore mining.

Construction of Regional Hospital and Health Centre Česká Lípa was realized between 1979 – 1981 ( department of Pathology in 1985 ). The hospital complex was mainly built by building companies from former Yugoslavia using their traditional technologies. Yugoslavian builders also used different technical criterions, found later as inadequate for use in the Czech Republic.

After 1989, uranious ore mining was limited, and many people have left for work to other regions. Thereafter, Regional Hospital and Health Centre Česká Lípa turned up to be too gigantic. Moreover, there has been no operational or structural reconstruction so far.

According to contemporary medical science ( also in view of technical conditions of all the buildings ), running of individual departments is not suitable.
